How it all works - Chart rated competitions
EADA uses a system of 'Charts' to monitor the ranking of competitive couples. Selected events known as National Selection Competitions (NSCs) are held around the country throughout the year. The NSC events are used for the compilation of charts. Points are awarded to couples according to their final position in the selected events in which they have danced.

It is not necessary for a couple to participate in every NSC for their particular category or style in order to be ranked, although a minimum number of events is specified for each chart before a couple is ranked. The best results for any given couple are tabulated to determine their chart position, and the number of such results required varies according to style and category.

A couple may elect to participate in more than the minimum number of NSCs in an effort to improve their overall ranking.
Applications to host chart-rated competitions are requested from promoters annually. Due and careful consideration is then given by the Council to the location and timing of events. All chart-rated competitions are published as soon as possible following the final confirmation of dates from promoters.

For more information, there is a downloadable pdf of the EADA Chart Booklet. .

Selection of couples to represent England
Selection of couples to represent England in World, European or International events is normally based on the couple's chart position at the time the invitation for the event is received by E.A.D.A. If the event is subsequently postponed, the selection will be considered null and void and, when the invitation is received for the revised date, a fresh selection will be made based on the current rankings.
