Classical (Old-time) dancing

Older ladies dancing together, retired couples, an elderly gentlemen looking for someone to partner him at the afternoon tea dance, cups of tea at 3.00 clock, maybe a plate of biscuits being passed around and its all happening at the local Church Hall, the odd knitting pattern may be looked at together with the latest school photographs of the grandchildren or even great-grandchildren.

This is their World of the Sequence Dance  BUT NOT OURS.

Inventive dance competitions take place and the winning dances are chosen for social and competition dancing.  These dances are Modern Sequence, Old Time and Latin, all sequence dances contain 16 bars.

The junior and juvenile competitions are a joy to watch, boys and girls from a very young age to 16 year olds take part, after which they dance Youth and Amateur, all of these young dancers have such grace and elegance.

The Social Dance competitions are for adult dancers of any age; competitors usually start with the beginner1s competitions and progress at their own speed as they gain confidence and expertise. The Social Dance competitions are of a very high standard. For the next stage competitors have to be 35 or over, these are the Seniors or 3in dress!2 and also present a very high standard of dancing.

The difference in 3Modern Sequence Ballroom2 dancing to 3Modern Ballroom Dancing2 is that everybody will dance the same waltz, foxtrot or whatever, everybody will travel in the same direction hence no major trips or accidents!  Everybody has their own qualified teacher and will learn technique and discipline, as do the dancers in Modern Ballroom.

The myth of the sequence dance must be quelled.
