2005 Blackpool Sequence Dance Festival

This years events held as usual in Blackpool's Winter Gardens took place from Saturday 22nd to 25th October - starting with the Junior and Juvenile Programme. All their events took place on that day with huge entries in most of the competitions.

The highlight of the day being the Junior 4 dance competition, with a massive 51 entries, despite one or two surprises in the final six, it was won in superb style by Callum Thompson & Christina Francotte from Skipton - the current British Junior Champions. The other important event, the Juvenile 3 dance was won by Sophie Gibson & Alex Lambert from Gateshead.

The adult events commenced on the Sunday and included the British Amateur Modern Sequence Championships won in a demonstration of sheer ability by Lee Godwin & Amy Turner from Crumlin. The semifinal of this event was certainly the finest round of sequence dancing seen for many many years.

Sunday also saw the British U/21 Sequence Championships won against very strong opposition by the very talented Scott Hawson & Vicky Lentle from Weston Super Mare with a scintilating display.

The British Senior Classical Championship, again on Sunday was won by Robert Hall & Diane Black from Derby in a closely fought competition.

The British Social Dancers Modern Sequence Competition was won with a lovely display by Colin & Karen Brewer from Lincoln.

Monday was a day devoted to original Sequence Dance Competitions. These 3 events were in 3 categories, the Latin Sequence being won by David Belshaw & Karen Kelly from North Shield with Rumba Sicila. The Classical Sequence was won by Howard & Joan Cookson from Bury with Spenbrook Saunter, and the Modern sequence section was won by Graham and Avril Watkins from Dudley with the very aptly named Winter Gardens Waltz!

The concluding day of the Festival (Tuesday) saw a variety of competitions these being:

The British Social Dancers Classical Sequence Competition won by David & Nicki Heywood from Cheslyn with a very creditable performance.

The British Senior Modern Sequence Competition won by Robert Hall & Diane Black from Derby with a very nice display of Modern Sequence technique.

The British Classical Sequence Amateur Championship again won with their superb style and technique by Lee Godwin & Amy Turner from Crumlin. (Congratulations WADA).

The British Social Dancers Formation competition, once again a very entertaining event was won by the Lincoln Team trained by Andrew Pigg. Another well deserved victory after a riveting display.

The British Professional Classical Sequnce Championships was won by Craig Bedwell and Angela Painting from Cannock with a display of dancing of the very highest order in a small competition crammed full of absolute class.

Last but not least, the All Ladies Competition was won by Emily Gray & Amy Bland from Newcastle on Tyne - some wonderful gavottes ladies!

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the winners and finalists and may we offer our best wishes of future success to all those who did not achieve their objectives.

Janet and myself would like to apologise to our fellow members for the fact that these notes did not appear as early as intended. This was due to our not returning home from Blackpool until Thursday accompanied by some personal problems (sorry Mr John Lloyd). To the rest of you thank you for your patience.
