The Scarborough Festival

The wind was howling, the surf was up and the waves were licking the side of the sea wall but did we care? Nooooo. We were in the lovely ballroom of the Spa complex at Scarborough for the final day of the Scarborough festival.

The smaller children were running around, excited to be there and music was playing from the DSI stand just outside of the ballroom.

This event was run over a few days, with cabarets and some fantastic competitions. Sunday was the day for all the juveniles and juniors to compete and also the amateurs later in the day.
We didn't have to wait too long for the day to start with the beginners and social competitors taking to the floor first. I have never seen so many dancers at this level on the dance floor outside of Champions of Tomorrow at Blackpool and it is encouraging to know that there is a wealth of talent that will hopefully progress to the higher levels. The more local dance schools bought their children along in droves and supported this fantastic event.

The Junior EADA standard and the Junior 5 dance Latin events were a bit low on numbers but definitely not low on talent. They wowed us with their routines and gave 100% and more. The younger children watched in awe as these super couples flowed around the ballroom. The judges were attentive to every detail and must have walked hundreds of miles around the dance floor so that they could get a better view of the overall picture being presented to them. This event was well run and extremely enjoyable for all that attended.
