Champions of Tomorrow 2007

For the entire year of 2006, children and adults alike of all different grades have competed to earn a place in the Champions of Tomorrow competition which was finally contested on Saturday 6th January 2007.

This prestigious competition is expertly run by Nigel and Janice Horrocks, with excellent time keeping and organisation.

Couples from all over Britain, and even a few couples from abroad, flocked to the beautiful Empress Ballroom in the Wintergardens at Blackpool for a full day of dancing at its best. From the smallest of juvenile beginners to the older more accomplished youth and over 35 couples, they appeared in their droves. Champions of Tomorrow is a great competition to commence the coming year of dancing and many of the past competitors have gone on to become successful and world renowned teachers, champions and organisers.

T

he atmosphere was electric and the ballroom was packed to capacity from the ground floor to the Gods. The dancing was to an extremely high standard and this was reflected in the results.

Towards the end of a very long day, just as we were all tiring, we were treated to a mesmerising demonstration from the wonderful Macro and Joanne. This reignited the brain cells and we were all wide awake again. The display of dancing from this beautiful pairing was second to none and all the children watched in awe as they huddled around the edges of the dance floor to get a closer look.

They were welcomed onto the floor with raptures of applaud and this continued after every dance and up until they took their last step. Like true ambassadors of the dancing world they didn’t disappoint and remained in the ballroom and spoke to everyone who stopped them. Another great ambassador to dance was Anton Du Beck who I saw being bombarded by children and their parents for photograph opportunities and autographs. He was only to pleased to take the time to entertain them.

To sum the day up……

………It was absolutely fabulous and I cannot wait until next year!

From Georgina Archer...

We had a great time at Champions 2007, it was the first time for Jordan Archer and Alice Shaw who got a recall in the Latin and to the semis in the ballroom, they also got to meet Anton and get a picture together with him.

It was a great weekend for the pair of them , they will be changing partners after 4 years together as Jordan will be turning Junior in September , they have had a great time dancing together and although not dancing as a couple stay great friends and supportive of each other.
