back to news The Celtic Classic Report by Robin Escolm e 28/02/07 The Celtic Classic this year, run by Tommy Shaughnessy and Ann Gibson, once again attracted a large field of competitors from around Europe and the rest of world, but with very few from the UK, which is a shame considering the close proximity (1 hour 15 mins from Stansted), and the guarantee of seriously tough competition, judged by adjudicators from around Europe. On top of this, you also get to see many of the best ballroom and latin american dancers in the world. Sadly we did not see the respective Latin and Ballroom No. 1 Amateurs, as they were not in attendance. However, a latin final consisting of Maurizio Vaseco, Stefano DePhillipo, Alexei Silde and Evgeny Smagin, and a Ballroom final with Paulo Bosco/Silvia Pitton, is certainly worth the entry fee! On top of this we got to see some English competitors giving the overseas couples a run for their money, but most importantly, they all gained valuable experience, which will stand them in good stead wherever they compete. I've attached a few photos (sorry they are all of Andy and Amy - buti t's not my fault, my camera refuses to take photos of anyone else), and here is a summary of the results for the English couples in attendance - the full results are available at www.celticclassic.com .My big take-away from this event is that we brits CAN compete against the best overseas couples, and I hope that more couples will.
