Juvenile Couple Make Dancing History
Submitted by Alison

David Cockram and Kelsey Fryer have only been dancing together for the past four months but have accomplished much in that time. David (from Cannock) has only been competing for just over a year and Kelsey (from Solihull) has previously enjoyed considerable success with her brother Ryan before it was time for him to move up to juniors.

When Kelsey heard that David was not only accomplished in Ballroom & Latin but Old Time too, she persuaded him to compete in the Sequence Festival at the Blackpool Winter Gardens in late October. Considering that they had only had four Old Time lessons together and that Kelsey had never danced Old Time before meeting David, they danced exceptionally well and were runners up in the boy/girl competition.

Since then, this popular duo has taken part in the British Nationals and were runners up in both the Latin and Ballroom Championships. All of this in spite of a very bad foot injury that Kelsey sustained the previous week at Nantwich, where they took six first places. Throughout the week leading up to the Nationals it was' touch and go' whether she would be able to compete but she was given the 'all clear' by her Sports Therapist just 12-hours before the event.

David and Kelsey won the Heart of England Championship at the recent MADC Trophy day and had been invited to dance on the same bill as Ian Waite and Camilla Dallerup this month.

Christmas came a few days early when David and Kelsey were selected to represent Great Britain in the 2007 Juvenile Ballroom & Latin Team. This was followed almost immediately by an invitation to take part in the National Sequence Team match held in April at the Blackpool Junior Festival. It looks like the two of them will be pretty busy that week competing as a couple and for both teams.

This is the first time that inclusion to both juvenile teams has ever been achieved and I'm sure comes as a welcome reward for all their hard work and dedication.

Well done to this talented Midlands couple.
