Helen
Rollason Heal Care cancer charity fundraiser
By Janine submitted 16/8/07

Last
Saturday Alun Bennett and I were helping to run a charity fundraising
event in Beckenham. We were raising money for the Helen Rollason
Heal Care cancer charity in support of our friend, Sally Baker.
Sally and her husband Phil were, until last year, senior pre-champ
ballroom competitors. Sally developed breast cancer at the young
age of 35 and underwent treatment, but sadly it has returned
several times since then and has now spread. Sally is now 44
and just weeks ago had to have a hip replacement due to the damage
the cancer has done to her bones, but she is no quitter! She
has set out to raise as much money as possible for breast cancer
charities and next week will be taking part with 20 other breast
cancer patients in a motorbike ride on a Harley Davidson from
Aviemore in Scotland to London.

A group of Sally’s friends got together with her to organise
a fundraising day at her local pub in Beckenham. The weather was
perfect and we had a very good turnout and plenty of support from
the biker community – Phil and Sally both ride Harley Davidsons
when they are not dancing. We managed to raise the fabulous sum
of £1,300 which will be added to Sally’s sponsorship
money for the Amazon Heart Thunder ride which she will be starting
on 26 August and finishing in London on Saturday 1 September.
It is not too late to sponsor Sally’s ride by visiting www.justgiving.com/AHTUKsallybaker.
