Romford,
July 07
By Sarah

The rain decided to take a break and we were able to
journey to
Romford
without a windscreen wiper moving. The sun was shining and the
spirits were high. As we approached the community centre we were
greeted by an ever smiling Peggy Callaghan and instantly we knew
that this was going to be a great day.
On the dance floor were the juveniles and oh my weren’t
there a lot of them today. As always these youngsters gave a
performance
rich enough for the Royal Variety show and such enthusiasm was
shown by each and everyone of them.
The Youth EADA Latin event was next to be run and although this
was lacking in numbers the energy was fantastic. Of course no competition
can go without a drama and one young lady collapsed at the end
of the jive but thanks to the help of Peggy and many others she
was lifted and taken outside for a sweet cup of tea. Making the
final, Derek was kind enough to make sure that the youth competitors
had a breather in between the dances and allowed this young lady
to take a drink. The help and hospitality shown by the organisers
was second to none, “Thank you”.
It was to say the least a very well run competition.
The Amateur standard championship was well attended with 24 couples
starting. It was great to see Warren and Kristi on the same floor
as some of the younger amateurs and not one couple looked out of
place. They all worked extremely hard and stood proud against their
peers.

What never ceases to amaze me is that in every event the energy
levels are so high and this is particularly visible in the senior
events. Almost always the last events of the day and late into
the evening these wonderful people still manage to smile and put
110% into their routines.
The highlight of the competition today had to be the Elegant lady
contest. With their gentleman escorting them around the floor these
beautiful women that we have all come to know so well were paraded
like royalty. Even Peggy herself was escorted around but made a
quick exit by the stage. Peggy had you have stayed in the competition
I am sure you would have won easily. |
