Daryl Carrying the flag

The Senior World Standard Championship was recently held in Spain on Saturday, March 03,2007 in Mislata, just outside the vibrant city of Valencia, Spain.

The venue was a sports hall which was filled with an enthusiastic Spanish crowd, supporting the couples dancing in the various competitions taking place throughout the day.

Some of the events, including the semi and final of the Senior IDSF world Championship and the Open Senior Standard on Sunday 04, March were filmed by a national television crew and will be televised shortly on Spanish Television.

John Tricia, Daryl and Sabine

The world Championship saw a good entrance of some 42 couples, representing their various countries with Daryl and Tricia Leung and John Townsend and Sabine Kuntze dancing it out for England.

The atmosphere was great and against the very noisy Italian and Spanish supporting crowed, the English supporting team of some 13 people waved their flags up high and cheered the four of us forward into the next rounds.

Daryl and Tricia reached 33rd place and John and Sabine
just missed the quarterfinal by sharing the 25th place with a Slovenian couple. The places on the podium for the 2007 senior world championship were taken by Italy (First and Third) and Belgium (second), with fourth place going to Spain, followed by Germany and Finland.

The final saw a fantastic light of the hall, creating an electric atmosphere which was topped by the winning couple performing their honour dance to a fireworks display that concluded a well run and organized competition day. Overall a fantastic experience, that became special through the English cheering squad consisting of friends and family that did not get tired, but supported us on the following day, where John and Sabine danced in the Open Senior Competition, taking third place.
