Foreign competitors
By Martyn

I have been asked to correct a rumour that is apparently doing the rounds at the moment.

It has come to the attention of the EADA office, that some are claiming that the EADA Council is actively banning non British dancers from competing in competitions. This is simply not true.

Under the BDC rules, to compete in competitions above beginner level, you need to be a member of the appropriate amateur body. If you have been in England for more than 90 days, that means EADA. As long as you are registered with EADA, you are able to enter any competition in which you are eligible to compete.

If you haven't been in the UK for that long, as long as you are a member of your home amateur body, again you may enter any competition in which you are eligible to compete.

In effect, this means you can enter the vast majority of the huge number of Championships, or equally numerous 'Trophy' events and Sunday Circuit comps held throughout the year. The only exceptions are those events 'closed' to British couples, and even then you can take part if your partner has a UK passport!

If you don't have EADA membership, then under BDC rules you can not compete - nothing at all to do with your nationality. If you hear anyone saying otherwise, they clearly do not understand the BDC rules so please correct them - foreign nationals are welcome to join EADA and compete!
